On Tuesday, local councillors and MP Andy Slaughter got the opportunity to question the GPs and managers who are pushing the closures at the council's Health Select Committee. Andy Slaughter comments:

"Everyone present - politicians and public - was astonished to hear the chair of the Clinical Commissioning Group Dr Spicer sum up the proposals by saying that the services remaining at Charing Cross would fit inside its current sport club premises on Fulham Palace Road. Charing Cross will not be recognisable as a hospital. In effect it will be a walk-in clinic, without in-patient beds.

"Of course this begs the question of what happens to the 80% of site that will be redundant. It looks like this will be availabe to Imperial NHS Trust to sell off for around £1bn."

The people driving the decision are a small group of GPs and local health service managers – but they will also be the beneficiaries as money is diverted away from hospitals towards GPs.

Please lobby your GPs! A key part of the decision is whether they support the plans. Many do not - but we need to know.
